Goals vs Intentions
Goals are great, but if they are missing the powerful foundation of intention, we sometimes can feel like we aren’t good enough without the achievement of that goal
Here is an example of what a goal looks like:
I want to loose 10 lbs
I want to cook 5 meals a week
I want to work out 5 days a week
I want to love myself and be more confident
Heres what an example of what an intention looks like:
This is the first thing I talk about with my clients:
I intend to feel peace in my body
I intend to practice self care and prioritize my needs
I intend to respect my bodyI intend to feel confident and worthy
I know when I learned about reframing thoughts about goal setting, it felt more in alignment with how I wanted to do things, it suddenly took the pressure off the “goal” and put the focus more on nurturing myself… a HUGE game changer!
Now let’s have some FUN! Write down 1-3 intentions for 2020 and journal how those intentions will affect your future self!
Here are some journaling questions to get you started:
If you were able to follow through on your intention, how would that make a difference in your life?
Who will be impacted by your follow through?
My”why” for my intention is…
What are you intending to shift to follow through on your intention?
How do you intend to follow through and who will hold you accountable for your actions?
Has this ever happened to you?
You got so excited and wrote down your intentions but never looked at them again!
Me too! We get busy and life gets in the way; and we sometimes put other things first
Have someone hold you accountable
When it comes to feeling empowerment in our bodies and our relationship to ourselves, having someone who helps you bridge that gap between thoughts and awareness, is key:
A trusted friend, or even a professional, like a therapist, or a coach.
